Clothing
What should I wear?
- see our complete style guide online
- look at the online samples in the galleries
- solid colors photograph best – designs and stripes do not
- avoid sleeveless or very short sleeves – upper arms can be distracting
- medium to dark tones (blue, green, olive, tan, rust, brown, purple or dark red) are best against a dark background
- white or light tones do best on a white or light background
- avoid necklines that are very low or high
- avoid heavy patterns, which distract from your face
- remember distractions such as stray hair, tan lines, wristbands and logo designs may create the need for extra charge digital enhancement!
Will my feet show?
- shoes will show in many cases, so they should complement your clothing
Props and Accessories
What props should I bring?
- sports equipment
- uniforms
- your letter jacket
- your artwork
- musical instruments
- clothing showing your heritage
- costumes from a school production

Grooming
What about my hair?
- bring a brush or comb
- have your hair cut at least one week before your session to give it time to look natural
- don’t try a radically different haircut or style just before your session
- if you’re playing fall sports that require you cut your hair, be certain to make your appointment before you cut your hair!
What if I get too much sun?
- sun-damaged skin is diffi cult and expensive to retouch, and results are often unnatural
- if you have red or peeling skin, please call to reschedule your session
What about my braces?
- for an extra charge, braces and other dental work can be successfully removed from your portraits with digital technology
Should I wear jewelry?
- simple jewelry can enhance your look – avoid large, distracting pieces

Why Keane Studios?
Why do I need to have Keane Studios do my yearbook portrait?
The San Dieguito Union High School District, your school administration and yearbook staff have contracted with Keane Studios for several reasons:
- Keane Studios partners with the SDUHSD to provide direct financial support to each school
- in the 2008/2009 school year, this totaled over $30 for each of the 2084 seniors registered at all the schools, whether they were actually photographed for the yearbook or not
- since the mid 90′s, Keane Studios has contributed direct financial support, services, software and equipment of over $300,000 to District schools
- the yearbook class knows that senior portraits created by one photographer helps ensure digital graphic consistency in production, eliminates the need to contact multiple sources for the portraits, and creates a better looking yearbook that helps our yearbooks win consistent awards
- deadlines must be met consistently. Keane Studios takes responsibility for delivering all digital files to the yearbook publisher in accordance with the guidelines of the Professional School Photographers Association. Bill Keane sits on the guideline committee of that association to ensure Keane Studios is always aware of new specifications.
- the studio provides often supplies and equipment needed by the yearbook, including the ever important pizza for deadline nights!
- studio photographers lend a hand as needed to complete assignments too challenging for yearbook staff and equipment, such as certain sporting events, senior class and all school groups, etc.
- as requested, Keane Studios holds classes for yearbook photographers to help them learn the basics & refinements needed for good photojournalism.
If you have another family photographer you’d like to do your senior portraits, don’t want to purchase any photographs, or for any other reason don’t want to purchase from Keane Studios, you are under no obligation to do so. You may arrange for a complimentary yearbook session so your published yearbook portrait is consistent with your classmates.
